Severn heaven

Aggregate producer RMC Materials has started a project that will see more than a quarter of a million tonnes of aggregate ferried down the river Severn in Gloucestershire from its Ryall Quarry to the Ripple processing plant a few miles downstream. The barge haulage will slash more than 34,000 lorry movements from surrounding roads each year and the move is likely to be extended a further 14 miles to include the firm's concrete batching plant in Gloucester.
