Shard to create 1,000 construction jobs

Around 1,000 construction jobs will be created now that the formal go ahead has been given to build the 310m high Shard.

Developer Sellar Properties told Construction News of the job creation after Mace was formally appointed as the contractor this week.

Stent Foundations began piling work last week. Due to the complexity of the job piling work is expected to run for another 38 weeks.

The Shard is expected to be completed in Spring 2012 and will be the tallest skyscraper in Europe – about the same height as New York’s Chrysler Building.
