Shaylor Contruction wins £12m Hagley Road job

Shaylor Construction has been chosen as main contractor on the £12 million Hagley Road scheme in Birmingham for Calthorpe Estates.

The project – managed by Edmond Shipway – will extend the existing five storey building to six storeys and make the building more energy efficient.

It will involve the replacement of all windows as well as the brickwork façade. The inside of the building will be adapted to create more open plan office space and retail opportunities.

Edmond Shipway's head of project management (Birmingham) David Clarke said: “The aim of the scheme is to refurbish this existing building and return it to prominence on the gateway to the city. Improving its external appearance will create a landmark building that achieves the highest rating in terms of sustainability.”

The refurbishment is expected to be completed in Autumn 2009.
