Sheffield bridge winner named

A team featuring consultant Ramboll Whitbybird has won a design competition for a new footbridge in Sheffield.

The company, in partnership with Danish architect Tim Norlund, came top out of 100 other designs in the RIBA international competition.

The bridge will provide a route over the A630 Sheffield Parkway, a busy dual carriageway which links the city centre with the M1 motorway.

It will be built jointly by Sheffield and Rotherham Councils on the border of the two authorities, near Tinsley golf course, paid for by Yorkshire Forward.

Work to build the £2 million bridge will begin this autumn with completion for summer 2009.
