Shepherd poaches Wates project director

Shepherd Construction has appointed Richard Dobson as construction director for its expanding business in the South.

Mr Dobson joins the company from Wates where he worked closely with several high profile commercial clients as project director.

His appointment follows that of Mark Tant who joined the company as managing director for the South after an extensive career at Willmott Dixon.

Former chief executive of Shepherd Construction Richard Vining announced his departure from the company last month.

Mr Tant, who helped secure several high profile framework places for Willmott Dixon including the IESE framework, said Mr Dobson’s appointment would help compliment his experience and allow the company to pursue its growth strategy in and around the capital.

He said the pair would target contracts in the £10m to £100m range, with a focus on prime residential and higher education work.

The contractor’s southern business has increased its turnover from around £60m in 2010/11 to £120m this year.

Mr Tant said his ambition was to maintain that level of turnover for the next three years while building the company’s profile in the capital.
