Shepherd suppliers f lock to early event

SHEPHERD Engineering Services held a summit for suppliers and subcontractors last week on Multiplex's £90 million hotel scheme at West India Quay in London's Docklands.

The meeting introduced the supply chain to the client and project management team.

Morris Whitehead, SES national sales director, said: 'The main purpose of the day was to ensure that our supply chain fully understood what the project was about and the procurement strategy we were adopting for it.

'Involving them at this early stage allows us to maximise the opportunities for innovation, specifically in the areas of prefabrication and modularisation, which we have used successfully in the past to drastically reduce on-site installation time.'

Buying teams, plus more than 140 personnel from the SES suppliers and subcontractors list, attended the event.

SES has a £21 million M&E contract at the site which will be home to a Marriott Hotel with 301 bedrooms and 47 apartments, plus 158 apartments for sale in a 36-storey building.

The full client team consists of Marylebone Warwick Balfour, Gleeds Management Services, main contractor Multiplex, Foremans and SES.
