Shiplee to shape up for Olympics

THE OLYMPIC Delivery Authority has confirmed the appointment of High Point Rendel director Howard Shiplee as construction director.

Mr Shiplee led the redevelopment of Ascot racecourse.

He also worked on Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok airport and Manchester's Terminal 2 building.

When he joins the ODA in September he will be responsible for managing the budgets, construction and schedules for all Olympic venues, as well as monitoring workmanship, inspections and construction best practice.

ODA chief executive David Higgins said: 'Howard's work at Ascot has been rightly praised as showcasing British construction at its best. His experience will be invaluable in helping to deliver the infrastructure and venues for London 2012.'
