SIG beats rain to put on sales

Specialist building products distributor SIG saw sales rise despite wet weather in April.

Its management statement for the period since 1 January 2012 showed a 1 per cent increase in sales and said there were strong positions in the core markets of insulation and energy management, interior fit out and roofing products.

This had happened despite “severe winter conditions across mainland Europe in February and the wettest April on record in the UK”.

It added: “Both periods of adverse weather resulted in reduced activity in the outside building trades, particularly impacting sales in the group’s roofing businesses.”

Sales in mainland Europe grew by 3 per cent, with France and the Benelux countries performing particularly well, and Germany marginally ahead of last year.

SIG has opened 10 new branches so far this year, three in the UK, three in Germany and four in France.
