Sink estate

HBG has been forced to halt work on a landmark £10 million residential scheme in Glasgow's Merchant City area after part of the building started to sink. An HBG spokesman said: 'We have temporarily stopped activities on one minor internal element of the Ingram Street project to account for localised variation in ground conditions. At this stage it is not anticipated there will be any significant delays in completion.' HBG confirmed that, of 120 base pad footings on the apartment block, one has dropped and six others have been affected.
