Sir Robert McAlpine beats Lend Lease to £550m Bloomberg HQ job

Sir Robert McAlpine has beaten Lend Lease to the coveted contract for the new £550 million Bloomberg headquarters in London.

The race for the construction job was down to two after Mace and a Skanska/Tishman joint venture dropped out.

Bloomberg’s new headquarters will be built on the site of the former Bucklersbury House.

The new building, designed by Foster and Partners, will be up to 500,000 sq foot and is next to Bank station, in the City.

Previous plans were for the Legal & General-owned Walbrook Square scheme to be transformed into a £300m development dubbed Darth Vader’s Helmet, but that plan was dropped.
