Six line up for £23m office job

CONTRACTS LONDON

SIX FIRMS have submitted bids for a £23 million office development in London's West End.

Wates, Kier, Balfour Beatty, Laing O'Rourke, Sir Robert McAlpine and Mowlem have all been shortlisted by developer London Merchant Securities to bid for the scheme.

The winning firm will revamp an office block at 105 Tottenham Court Road, close to Warren Street underground station.

The job is being developed under a twostage tender. Interviews will be held over the next fortnight before a contract award is made.

An existing 1950s building will be stripped back to the concrete frame and rebuilt. Glass cladding and a new reception and central atrium will be added to appeal specifically to the large number of advertising and media firms in the area.

The overhauled building, situated at the northern end of the street, will provide 8,500 sq m of office space as well as 1,300 sq m of retail space.

A separate block of seven apartments is also planned under the scheme.

LMS is hoping to start construction on site by early spring and have the new development open for business by the end of 2006.
