Slow deliveries blamed for construction delays

MATERIALS suppliers are delaying construction schemes by failing to deliver to site on time, according to a report.

The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) revealed that the overall rate of construction activity had grown.

But supplier delivery times continued to lengthen despite the rate of buying slipping to its lowest level since July 2002.

According to firms questioned in the survey, lower stock holdings at suppliers were cited as one of the main causes of delay.

Roy Ayliffe, CIPS director of professional practice, said the survey indicated the construction industry was being propped up by high activity in the house building sector.
