Social housing boosts STG

A RISE in social housing work has buoyed trading at Castleford contractor Strategic Team Group.

In the year to March 2006 STG raised operating prof its £410,000 to £1.5 million as turnover leapt £4.9 million to £17 million.

Business development director Charles Tweed said: 'We will be aiming to continue growing our market share and presence throughout the north of England.

'Last year saw us making significant improvements on our financial performance as well as meeting all our business objectives.'

Social housing comprises 42 per cent of the workload at STG, which has been using more modern methods of construction that have helped win work with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

STG employs around 200 people and has also been working for builders' merchants Travis Perkins and in the rail, commercial and retail sectors.
