Software eases CIS paperwork

A SOFTWARE company has launched a package aimed at simplifying the handling of CIS tax returns for small contractors.

Exicom, based in Puckeridge, Hertfordshire, developed the 'CIS manager' sof tware with Janelle Lankester Accounting.

Exicom director Darren Cranwell said: 'We've developed a program which looks after the day-to-day management of subcontractors from the point of view of CIS deductions.' Once subbies' details have been entered into the system, it can calculate CIS deductions automatically, produce individual cheques, and put together a single CIS report that can be used to fill in vouchers for HM Revenue and Customs.

Mr Cranwell added: 'It is compatible with major accounting packages such as Sage, but it is simpler to use and more focused on the needs of small business.' Jayne Fletcher, an administrator at Hertford firm Woodson Electrics, piloted the software for Exicom.

Ms Fletcher said: 'It has saved at least two to three hours' work a week. We have about 50 or 60 subcontractors on our books, mostly on CIS4 but some on CIS5 and CIS6. Before, I would have to go through each file getting details like National Insurance.

'Now I get one sheet which means I can just transfer the data onto the right vouchers at the end of the month.'
