Some firms still unware of SWMPs law

Nearly two fifths of companies are still not aware that Site Waste Management Plans could become compulsory within six months, according to an environmental survey.

And even of companies which are aware, 78 per cent have not created a plan, according to the survey by NetRegs, a government body which provides environmental guidance for SMEs.

Defra has said it wants to make SWMPs a legal requirement in April 2008.
