South West RDA to fund seafront regen

The South West Regional Development Agency has agreed to fund a seafront regeneration project in Weymouth – site of the 2012 Olympic sailing competition.

Known as the Esplanade Regeneration Project, the project includes new beach rescue and tourist information buildings, as well as new links between the seafront with the harbour areas and the town centre.

Construction is expected to start in the spring next year.

The South West RDA also agreed to increase its budget by £5.75 million at the £21 million Osprey Quay on Portland, a 560- berth commercial marina that will host the sailing.
