'Specials' in sales boom

DEMAND for brick 'specials' made by cutting and resing bond-ing standard bricks, is booming. The Brick Cutting and Fabrication Association - a trade body set up last year - said that sales among its members have increased by an average of 12 per cent in the past year.

Duncan Cunningham, chairman of the association, said: 'Much of the growth has arisen as architects and builders have increasingly recognised the enhanced design features that can be obtained by using cut and bonded bricks.'

The association estimates the market for cut and bonded bricks to be worth about £15 million a year.
