Speedy wins Taylor Wimpey business

Taylor Wimpey today signed a deal worth up to £24 million with Speedy Hire for the supply of plant and tools to its homebuilding division.

Speedy will be the sole supplier of all the division's hire tools and equipment under the three-year deal. The contract includes specialist equipment from Speedy’s lifting, power, pumps and survey divisions.

In a separate agreement, Taylor Wimpey contracting division, Taylor Woodrow Construction, has awarded Speedy preferred supplier status.

Speedy national account manager David Simpson told Construction News the deal followed on from two mergers last year – Taylor Woodrow with George Wimpey and Speedy’s £115 million acquisition of Hewden’s tool hire business.

He said: “The acquisition of Hewden tool hire has helped us because the company was preferred supplier to Taylor Woodrow.”

Mr Simpson added that Taywood was in the process of carrying out a plant review at the time when the company merged with George Wimpey. He said: “As Hewden was already trading with them, there was a holistic group deal bringing the different companies together. It is just as well because potentially we could have been supplying two sides of the same business.

“As Speedy we haven’t had a trading deal with Taylor Woodrow Construction before - we’re building confidence with the company.”
