Step forward for training grants, urges CITB

News

CONSTRUCTION firms are being urged to claim £114 million in training grants available this year from CITB-ConstructionSkills.

Companies of all sizes can claim a share of the cash for training in areas ranging from construction-based programmes to computer skills, accountancy and customer services.

Douglas Matthews, head of finance at CITB-ConstructionSkills, said: 'It's not just for the big firms - recent figures have shown that not investing in training could cost smaller businesses £1,700 a year through materials errors, skills shortages and accidents.'

In 2005 nearly 20,000 firms applied for grants to help with their training costs and gained a share of £107 million.

Details of the grants available can be found at www. citb constructionskills. co. uk/grant.
