Stoke-on-Trent Tarmac's £20m health kick

A TARMAC-led consortium is preferred bidder on a £20 million Private Finance Initiative healthcare scheme in Stoke-on-Trent.

The proposal comprises a psychiatric unit at Stoke City General Hospital for North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust.

The project is expected to be included in a second batch of PFI healthcare schemes predicted to get the go-ahead in Easter, 1998, from the Department of Health. Other members of Tarmac's group include TPS Consult and Crown House Engineering.

The project has detailed planning permission subject to a section 106 agreement, but work is not expected to begin until February, 1999.
