Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK: A Geordie joiner has walked from Land's End to John O'Groats with a wooden door on his back.

Brian Walker, 30, took five weeks to complete the 871-mile trek while carrying the 40lb pine door. After crossing the finishing line, he said: 'I remember when I was young being very impressed by my father, Harry, carrying a door about four miles from the builder's yard to our house.' His effort has been approved by Guinness World Records and will be entered once it is validated.The effort is set to raise over £5,000 in sponsorship for Cancer Relief MacMillan Nurses.

Pennsylvania, USA: Labourer Richard Cladver was sentenced to at least seven months in prison for a series of episodes on state roads 22 and 33 in which eventually 27 people contacted authorities to report that a motorist (identified as Cladver) had driven nude, with the horn blasting, while vigorously masturbating. Cladver told the judge that he believes his behaviour stemmed from feeling neglected as a child and later by his wife, but said he was making substantial progress.

Oregon, US: A suspected burglar escaped after failing in his bid to break into a warehouse.

But he left behind his bolt cutters, some burned clothing and part of his scalp. Police said the man had attempted to cut through a 480 V line and probably had 'severe' burns.

New York, USA: A construction worker died after a shotgun he found in a trash container at a work site accidentally discharged, striking him in the neck. Orano Stepcic, 52, found the gun in a case he pulled from a container near where he was working on Woodward Avenue in the Ridgewood district of Queens.
