Strict dress code gets short shrift

I write with regard to Mrs Delderfield's letter on dress codes for site workers (Construction News, May 16, 2002).

The Considerate Constructors Scheme sympathises with Mrs Delderfield's husband, who has been told not to wear shorts when operating his digger.

The term 'dress code' means suitable clothing for the purpose.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme monitors dress code from the point of view of the public perception of a professional site operative.

There is nothing wrong with short sleeves or shorts provided they are clean and neat. The image of the construction industry will not be improved by needless restrictions.
