Subbie in barricade

AN ANGRY north-eastern subcontractor was arrested after protesting over an unpaid £55,000 bill last week.

John Simpson of Durham spent five hours in police cells after barricading the gates to Rooney Construction in Dudley, North Tyneside.

Mr Simpson claims he is owed the cash for groundworks he did for Rooney on a housing job in Northumberland in January.

Rooney Construction, which employs around 30 people, was placed in administration this week.No one from the firm was available to comment.
