Sponsors of Superlink, the rival scheme to London's Crossrail, have increased pressure on MPs as they prepare to debate Crossrail before Parliament is suspended for the election.Dr John Prideaux, chairman of Superlink, said: 'Our scheme does more to relieve congestion as well as providing faster and more effective links with regional centres and airports.'

He said the £13 billion project would carry four times as many passengers as Crossrail.
