Surveyors see growth from private housing

PRIVATE housing continues to power growth in construction, according to the latest survey from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Activity in the housing sector showed its highest rise for 15 months; 17 per cent more surveyors reported a rise in work rather than a fall during the third quarter of this year, up on the previous three months' figure of 15 per cent.

Firms are also confident about future workloads following an interest rate cut and the opportunities surrounding the 2012 Olympic Games.

Chief economist Milan Khatri said: 'Construction continues to see steady growth despite a wider slowdown.'
