Tayside NHS awards hospital deal

CONTRACTS - DUNDEE

SIR ROBERT McAlpine will begin work in a few weeks on a £6 million scheme to expand a hospital near Dundee.

The firm edged out HBG, Balfour Beatty and Miller Construction to secure the deal for NHS Tayside.

Work will involve building a community and maternity unit at Ninewells Hospital, which is part of a long-running project to improve similar facilities across the whole of the Tayside area.

The development will also provide facilities for students from the University of Dundee, whose medical department is located on the hospital site three miles north of the city.

The hospital has been undergoing extensive modernisation work and a £6 million upgrade of a children's ward was recently completed.

Work on the maternity unit will start next month with completion planned for early next year.
