Team sought for military museum

The National Army Museum is seeking a design and build team to redevelop its Chelsea premises.

This £18m project will involve the creation of a new central court in the existing building, around which permanent exhibition galleries will be arranged over a number of floors.

It also requires a new visitor reception area, external landscaping, construction of commercial areas, archives and an educational suite, and design and fit out of the gallery spaces.
The museum will require the appointed lead architect/ designer to co-ordinate the work of all contractors and sub contractors. A project manager will be appointed separately to ensure value for money.

Initially, the design and build team will be appointed to deliver the project to RIBA Stage D by October 2013, when the plans will be presented to Heritage Lottery Fund.

If the bid for lottery funds is successful the museum intends to employ the same team to complete the project by July 2016.
