Tesco's Irish plans turned down

Plans to build Tesco's largest store in Ireland have been rejected, it was revealed last night.

Proposals for a 12,000 sq m supermarket at the Bridgewater retail park, near Banbridge, have been rejected by Planning Service.

A spokeswoman for the Planning Service said: "A notice of opinion to refuse planning permission has been served.

"The department awaits a formal response from the applicant."

Local traders opposed the proposals, arguing they would damage the town centre, causing jobs losses and shop closures.
