The president, the subcontractor and the Shipwrecked star

The managing director of a Cardiff-based ventilation subcontractor has spoken of his delight at meeting Barack Obama last night after his daughter – a star of Channel 4’s Shipwrecked – sold a White House worker some sunglasses.

Smoke Control Services boss Allan Meek was invited to meet the man he describes as his hero at a meet and greet at The American School in London ahead of the G20 summit.

Rosie Meek was offered two tickets to the event last night after her eventful shift at Selfridges. The event took place less than an hour after Mr Obama’s helicopter, Marine One, touched down at the US Ambassador’s residence in Regent’s Park.

Mr Meek said: “It was like something out of Goodfellas with all the secret service men in suits running around talking into their walkie-talkies. It was a real privilege to meet such an inspiring man and his wife, who is even more beautiful in the flesh.

He added: “It would be great to get an invitation to Washington to discuss how our smoke control systems could help protect staff and residents at the White House, but I appreciate I may be waiting some time.”
