The UK's two big general unions this week launched a joint recruitment materials workers.At the same time it emerged that the Transport and General Workers Union and GMB general union are considering

It is the first time two unions have recruited members together and its the first step to an eventual merger.The initiative is spearheaded by national officials Allan Black of the GMB and Len McCluskey of TGWU.At first local officials will target big name building materials companies including Marley, Redland, Tarmac and Hanson's London Brick.A broader recruitment drive will start next year.
