Three chase £20m office

A TRIO of contractors is preparing to slog it out for a £20 million office project in the north-west.

Laing O'Rourke, Balfour Beatty and Sir Robert McAlpine are lined up to tender the Amethyst House deal in Manchester for Haydock-based developer Langtree Property.

The successful bidder will raze the existing 8,000 sq m, six-storey building to the ground and replace it with a 9,300 sq m development. The scheme is dependent on planning permission and a refurbishment plan is pencilled in as backup.

The developer bought the building for £5 million from Isis property ahead of rival Frontier Estates in March 2003.

The firms will pick up the single-stage tender documents next month and will return them in September. A decision is due in autumn this year.
