A deck section is lifted into place for the new £5 million Usk Footbridge in Newport. The bridge will span 145 m across the River Usk. Main contractor Alfred McAlpine used the tallest crane in the UK to lift the first section - it stands over 100 m tall and arrived on 48 articulated lorries, taking four days to assemble on site. Bridge engineers are Atkins with Grimshaw acting as designers. The bridge has been built by Rowecord Engineering.
