Trafford Centre scaffolder falls to death in lift shaft

A SCAFFOLDER plunged 8 m to his death while working on the Trafford Centre in Manchester at the weekend.

Kenneth Podmore, 37, of Heywood, Greater Manchester, was building a scaffold in a lift shaft when the accident happened.

Site sources said the scaffold moved, toppling him off balance.

The exact cause of death will be decided at an inquest, but safety investigators believe he may have drowned in water at the bottom of the shaft.

The Health and Safety Executive is currently investigating the tragedy.

Mr Podmore was working for Wellinborough firm Midland Scaffolding Services on the site, where Bovis is main contractor.
