Trailer cuts haulier's fuel costs

A HAMPSHIRE haulier has claimed to have achieved 'significant' fuel savings by replacing an old step-frame trailer with a new model with forward-folding ramps.

Boarhunt Garage of Fareham claimed the SFCL40 trailer, made by local firm Andover Trailers, will reduce annual fuel bills.

Fold-forward ramps, which Andover Trailers introduced in 1997, improve fuel economy by reducing the drag created by traditional ramps locked in a vertical position.

Boarhunt's transport director David Pushman said: 'We are projecting that across a full year the ramps will cut £4,500 off our annual fuel bill.'

Boarhunt has recorded a consistent 0.7 mpg fuel saving with the trailer, which is drawn by a MAN TGA tractor unit.
