Transportation system 'heading for crisis'

The cost of congestion to the UK could double from the current £15 billion a year to £30 billion in the next decade if nothing is done to tackle it, the RAC Foundation said today.
The foundation said: 'A transport crisis is looming if the new Government buries its head in the sand and fails to develop and fund a national transport strategy.'

The economy and the prosperity of UK residents will be damaged if transport is not given a much higher priority by the party taking power, the foundation said.
