Trio hope to book £12m library deal

CONTRACTS - WALES

THREE firms are circling around a prestigious job to build a new library in Cardiff.

Taylor Woodrow, Laing O'Rourke and Sir Rober t McAlpine are all battling it out for the £12 million deal for developer Land Securities.

The new library is part of the St David's 2 development, a large shopping hub due to be built in the centre of Cardiff.

Bovis Lend Lease has been appointed to carry out construction on the £300 million scheme.

Designed by Building Design Partnership, the library will be spread over six floors and will provide 3,428 sq m of floor space.

A temporary library will be erected until the new development opens in 2008.

A winner is due to be appointed in the next few weeks with construction set to start at the beginning of June.
