Trio takes the high road

THREE firms are vying for a £12 million deal to carry out road improvements in the Highlands for the Scottish Executive.

Local firm RJ McLeod is up against nationals Carillion and Morrison for the deal, which will see the upgrading of a stretch of road on the A830 from Arisaig to Loch nan Uamh.

The work will mark the final phase of the project to upgrade the A830 between Fort William and Mallaig on the coast.

A contract award is due in November, with work starting the following month. Construction is due to be completed in spring 2008.
