Trust calls on 13 for £90m project

A MASSIVE list of 13 firms has been given the chance of sharing a £90 million programme of new housing.

Newlon Housing Trust has f inalised its list of approved contractors for its new homes in Greater London.

National firms such as Kier, Lovell and United House have all made the list, along with the smaller Oakwood.

The trust has yet to decide which firms will be picking up contracts.

Work will be let over the next four years, beginning this autumn. The value of packages will range from £1 million up to £30 million.

The trust is the latest in a line of social housing providers to use a framework but several contractors have found the procurement process frustrating.

A source at one of the large contractors on the list said: 'The problem with these frameworks is that there are absolutely loads of forms to fill in.

'Every time a new framework comes out we have to fill in the lot and send it back.

'But we're still no closer to getting any work out of it, which for the smaller guys means you have to question whether its worth the time and effort.

'I have my doubts whether we'll pick much up.

'Until it comes through the door we won't hold our breath.'

The final list

Como Homes; Countryside Properties; Durkan; Higgins; John Laing; Kier; Lovell; Mansell; Mulalley; Oakwood; Rokbuild; United House; Willmott Dixon.
