Two deaths in January

Two construction workers died in January, according to unofficial figures, less than last year’s monthly average.

The data, put to the Health and Safety Executive board, included a 51-year-old in Berwick upon Tweed, Northumberland, who was struck by a reversing telehandler, and a 45-year-old in Northolt, West London, who was found unconscious outside a house being painted.

Constructing Excellence incoming chairman Vaughan Bernand said: “The big test for the industry will be if this low number can be sustained.”
