Two firms battle for college job

CONTRACTS - EDUCATION

RIVALS are battling it out for a £25 million deal to build a college in Essex.

Haymills and HBG have picked up tenders from Thurrock County Council to build the Gateway Community College in Tilbury.

The college will be a twostorey steel-frame structure and will provide teaching accommodation for around 1,200 pupils.

The contractors are working with the council on the college's design as part of a two stage tender process. Work will get under way in January next year in order for pupils to start arriving in September 2007.

The college is already up and running but it is being housed in old school buildings until the new facilities are ready.
