Tyne Crossing documents go to final two firms in running

CONTRACTS NORTH-EAST

DOCUMENTS for the £185 million Tyne Crossing have been sent out to the two teams left in the race to build it.

A Balfour Beatty/Volker Stevin team is up against a rival led by French firm Bouygues.

The bridge will cross the river between Jarrow and Howdon.

The Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Authority will appoint a preferred bidder for the PFI contract next spring, with construction work on the three-year deal starting the following spring.
