UCI cinema expansion

UNITED Cinemas International (UCI) is planning a 100 million cinema expansion. Work will begin on six sites during 1996 and opening dates have been agreed (see below).

The fit out contracts will be let by UCI with costs at about 750 per sq m. Dave Harris, UCI operations director, said: Tenders will go out to various suppliers in due course.

The shells will be built and paid for by the respective developers. Groundworks have already started on the sites in Dublin and Manchester and steel frames will be erected on both inside the next month.

Each cinema will have a seating capacity of around 3,500 and between nine and 12 screens. Licensed bars and retail areas will also be included at each site.

UCI is currently looking at another 10 possible locations and expects to announce plans for at least another four cinemas before the end of the year.
