UK debut for Air Impactor

Plant

AN AIR Impactor pipe burster from trench specialist Vermeer has been used for the first time in the UK by contractor R W Wilmshurst.

The high-energy attachment allows a contractor to burst pipes without having to add extensive new equipment to their existing directional drilling fleets.

Wilmshurst used the tool from distributor B-Trac to replace a 41 m-long 300 mm diameter concrete pipe, using just a 300 mm drill hole.

The tool operates at twice the blow rate and twice the pressure of standard bursting equipment, at up to 200 psi, Vermeer says.

By using the Impactor, attached to a Vermeer Navigator drill rig, Wilmshurst finished the job in a day, saving them up to 2 weeks' work, and 33 per cent of costs, the contractor said.
