UK firms in Burj chase

TWO BRITISH contractors are on the sevenstrong shortlist to build the world's tallest tower - the Burj Dubai.

Balfour Beatty and Laing O'Rourke are pitching for the £450 million scheme that will stand 705 m above the streets of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, for developer Emaar Properties.

Balfour Beatty's arm Balfour Beatty Dutco has linked up with Consolidated Contractors International. Laing O'Rourke and partner Al-Naboodah is in a team with Hip Hing.
