Universities and BRE join for research

MATERIALS

A MOVE to boost the amount of research undertaken in the construction industry is to be launched next week.

Researcher BRE is to team up with four universities to develop centres of excellence that will cover work in fire safety engineering, innovative construction materials, sustainable building design and energy utilisation.

A fifth centre will carry out research into people and the built environment.

Under the Department for Trade and Indust ry-backed project the centres for the UK Strategic R&D Partnership for the Built Environment will be based at the Universities of Edinburgh, Bath, Cardiff and Strathclyde.
