Vinci wins £27m Reading Tesco contract

Vinci has been named winner of a £27m design and build contract for Tesco to develop a new distribution centre in Reading.

The 84,000 sq m development will be built at a former Heineken brewery site in Whitely, south Reading and will be carried out by Vinci’s retail and interiors division.

The contractor has announced several Tesco wins in the past few months including an £11.4m Teesside and a £46m West Bromwich store.

The distribution centre will include a vehicle maintenance unit, wash and refuelling facility and a gate house. The building is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 34 per cent on 2010 building regulations.

Midlands, South-west, Wales and retail manager Chris Pape said: “We are absolutely delighted to continue our excellent relationship with Tesco Stores Ltd on this project.

“It is particularly pleasing to be working on a project that, once completed, will provide in excess of 1,000 employment opportunities to the local area.”
