Volvo is launching the first of its backhoe loaders at SED.

The BL71 is the product of over three years of research and development and marks a great step forward in the company's bid to become a major player in the compact equipment market.

A group of Volvo customers helped with development through the use of 'clinics' which Volvo says helped produce a machine that matches customer needs to an unprecedented degree.

The BL71 will be built in Wroclaw, Poland, where Volvo already builds buses. Powered by a four cylinder Volvo turbocharged low emission diesel engine, the BL71 is said to offer some features that cannot be found on other makes of backhoe loader.

Besides this machine, Volvo will also show its complete line of mini excavators up to 7 tonnes, plus several larger machines including excavators and wheeled loaders.
