Volker Stevin wins £14.5m cold store contract

Building contractor Volker Stevin has won a contract to design and build a head office building and cold storage distribution centre for Heron Foods in Melton, near Hull.

The project involves the construction of a cold store distribution building with an energy centre and waste compaction facilities to improve recycling, as well as a head office building.

Its steel framed distribution centre with combination of microrib and trapezoidal cladding will hold a 6,650 sq m cold store, a 3,500 sq m chill store and a 9,590 sq m ambient store all with additional energy efficiency measures to improve delivery costs as well as making the building more sustainable.

The £14.5 million contract, which is expected to be complete in late 2009, also includes all ancillary buildings, associated MEICA and all infrastructure works.
