VolkerWessels UK arm 'behind expectations'


THE UK operations of VolkerWessels disappointed in the first half of this year, according to the Dutch contracting conglomerate.

VolkerWessels, which has nine UK subsidiaries including John Crowley, Fitzpatrick, Laser, Volker Stevin and a half-share in Grant Rail, raised Western European turnover outside the Netherlands by £24 million to £334 million.

The firm said: 'The half year profit in the UK has not been in line with expectations. The results in the UK are expected to recover for the year.'

Overall net first half profits and turnover were f lat at £24.5 million and £1.3 billion respectively at VolkerWessels.
