Wanted: ace operators to wage Digger Wars

EXPERT plant operators with a taste for gladiatorial combat are being sought by excavator theme park Diggerland for the launch of Digger Wars.

The brainchild of Diggerland founder and HE Services chairman Hugh Edelaneu, Digger Wars will pitch excavator against excavator in a lifesize version of the Robot Wars TV programme.

According to spokeswoman Karen Ross, the event at Diggerland in Cuxton, Kent, on October 4 will see drivers attempt to tip over the opposing machine or force their surrender. As in Robot Wars, Digger Wars will feature pyrotechnics and a 'spectacular death pit'.

The event, cleared with the HSE, will be split into knockout competitions between amateurs and professional operators. Entrants need to sign up for pre-event training session.

'We're looking for operators who know their stuff to make it spectacular, ' said Ms Ross.
